With the saying you would, you're not actually supporting the thing, and you'll always be able to make up excuses as to why you're not paying it — I'm not seeing results, they haven't implemented a feature I want, I didn't like how this post was worded, etc.
Rather fhan saying, just start paying. It's $5 a month, you spend more than that on impulse buys

@thisismissem I think it's a privileged way of thinking 5$/mo isn't a lot to pay, especially if you consider that there are many projects and organizations one might want to do this for.
Regardless, I fully agree that saying you'd do it, but not doing it, is not the same. Which is totally fine, not everyone can offer support. But those shouldn't be confused with eachother.

@maybeanerd right, and if $5/mo is too much, stop paying, it's okay, no one will judge. I've had people pay to support my work & then not be able to continue, and that's okay. I've even offered once a full lifetime refund to someone because they were super pissed about something (can't recall what) and they ended up not taking it.
But doing will always be better than saying. Doing leads to change.

@thisismissem of all the discussion about this that got boosted into my feed yesterday, this is the thing that pissed me off.
*Saying* you'll pay $5/mo to "a pool of developers” and then... not. And still complaining things aren't getting built fast enough?

@josh yeah, that annoyed me too along with the person who more or less assumed I'm not doing everything I can to make my work sustainable
