Starting a new thread to document the delightful things I am finding out about joining the tech team at Monterey Bay Aquarium.

@ShiitakeToast @dan i have the kelp forest as my official video chat background
it's wonderful!
-
@skinnylatte i thought this was about my home city Monterrey Nuevo León
-
@vgarzareyna i want to visit one day!
-
@skinnylatte haha! Omg. I haven’t been to Monterey in decades. I remember there used to be like maybe 12-15 sea lions that had taken over one of the docks in the marina. Nothing like this!! wow!! That’s so wild!
-
61. i've stumbled upon the 'otters and birds' 'weekly weigh-in' database
-
62. this is a pun-friendly workplace and i've been going ham.
someone was like 'what are your feelings about tacos' and i was like 'i only have taco fillings'
-
63. There is a poster in the kitchen with the little paws of some otters.
It says ‘Isn’t it PAWSOME??’ (Some free things and how to get them)
-
64. Our store has lots of animal shirts (obviously). I like the octopus one that says I’M CLINGY, the otter one that says PLAYS WELL WITH OTTERS, and the sunfish one that says HOLA MOLA
-
65. super cool video of octopus and the aquarist who works with them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYBFRu4gkdA

66. I visited a lab at work today. It’s where the microbiologists and water quality people work. They have fridge poetry magnets that go, I kid you not:
‘My beautiful fluorescent phycocyanin cyanobacteria’
-
67. I was in a workplace safety training and it told me to beware otter's teeth, crab claws and penguin's beaks
-
@skinnylatte For independent corroboration of the danger of penguins' beaks, see: Linus Otrvalds' testimony.
