Step 1 of taking a bicycle 120 miles out of San Francisco without a car: ride to BART station (the subway in the Bay Area ).
-
@skinnylatte Yeah, sadly that airport shuttle is basically the ONLY reliable transportation between SF and Monterey.
-
@rednikki I was kinda annoyed at the cost but I’m going to just take that now just had to move my bike one way today
-
Step 7: arrive in Salinas! Grab your bike
-
@skinnylatte Thank you for sharing pics of your cool journey! I love them all

@skinnylatte
The composition of the conductor + bike photo is <chef's kiss>And that billboard is giving Soviet Realism

@jf_718 thank you!!
-
@asl thanks so much!
-
@artemesia I don’t think so. I haven’t seen bike racks
-
Bus 20 to Monterey from Salinas Transit center is running every hour today (holiday schedule). I see a bunch of bikes, unsure if I’ll get on with mine. At least 2 bikes are Bike Fridays so if they fold it up I might be able to get on.
Pretty decent taqueira next door: Tacos Don Beto
Backup plan is to do a XL ride share to Monterey. It’s too cold / steep / long / dark, soon to ride there
-
lol folding bike people very unwilling to help. But they’re also 75 years old so I’m waiting in the cold for the next bus or a rideshare. There also aren’t that many rideshares out here. This journey is not the fun bike commute many of my bike friends think it is. I don’t even think I can do this once a week. Every part of it is unreliable. Fun—on a vacation. Not if I’m heading to work
-
@skinnylatte folding a bike friday takes 10 seconds though?
-
@kf they were being weird about it so I was like wtv

The only reliable way to get from San Francisco to Monterey without driving is the $62pp airport shuttle from SFO. Kind of nuts given how a major global tourist attraction is in Monterey (my employer). It all assumes everyone drives and everyone drives because there aren’t good transit options.

@[email protected] I am loking at the monterey/salinas transit and there's a JAZZ bus but google maps just draws a straight line from san jose to prunedale, and I know that's not right. I have never ridden it but am curious

@pagrus that’s the airport shuttle. San Jose then Prunedale. Google maps is extremely unreliable for these parts. It told me the next bus 20 is 7:15 but that’s not right. It didn’t even show the bus here at all in the transit center in Salinas

@pagrus haha yeah that bus is very local
-
@skinnylatte Would MBA-operated shuttles pay for themselves in increased attendance?
-
@evanwolf probably but attendance is also already incredibly.. large

@[email protected] is it any easier to get there from santa cruz? I feel like that leg at least is more frequently traveled from sf, I had a friend who taught at uc and would make the trip twice a week
