Thinking about how life has been unexpected in so many ways.
In early Covid a friend got me into birding, and that was really the first time I spent any substantial amounts of time in nature. Previously I’d been raised in SE Asian cities: nature, ecology existed and were world class but I feel like I had blinders on somehow.
Now I’m excited to go back and see everything through a nature / rainforest / mangrove lens.
On Monday, I start a job right by the Pacific Ocean.

All through early Covid, many things felt desperate and sad, but our adventures outdoors here in California kept me going. I started trail running as well, which is an activity that combines my love of solitude and nature. I started hiking, something I never thought I would really take on. In 2021 I went to Yosemite, did Half Dome, Cloud’s Rest, etc and I think that truly changed my life.
It started to feel like I couldn’t care about BS anymore. Not when such beauty was here.

@skinnylatte Mangroves sound like the perfect "trees by water" formula that I understand is where to look for birds.
In California, "trees by the river" is where I see magpies; near Sacramento and at the Camp Roberts rest area on US-101.
