Making a list of some of the things I really am thankful for
1. We’ve been in San Francisco for 6 years. It’s been a wonderful home for us. We are an international, inter-racial queer couple who were looking for a home that would give us opportunities and a way to be together.
It felt like home right away.

2. My wife found her calling here and our main public university has been amazing (SF State). In a year or two she will be a clinical psychologist. Not many places give you good and affordable mid-career switch education opportunities
3. I found 10 hobbies since moving here. Living in a film photography hub has been wonderful

4. Even though I pretend to complain about it sometimes, I like that I can get 95% of the food items and things I care about. It makes being away from the home had to leave, much less painful
5. I like that I don’t have to get into a car more than once a month (and only then, to leave the city)
6. I love our farmers market and library!

7. I’ve been able to get into a lot of queer AAPI activism. It’s shown me that I absolutely want to live somewhere where I’m not only an immigrant or Asian, or queer, separately. It matters to me that I am around people who are *all of those things*
8. The nature is wonderful. It’s now a major part of my life in ways I never foresaw

Even as things feel precarious, I am comforted by knowing that I have deep community and roots here.
I feel, quite honestly, like even if shit happens, I have a part to play here. That I am wanted.
I don’t think that I even feel that way about the place where I was born (other than the built in family ties, an accident of birth).
It’s not everyone’s cup of tea! But for this Singaporean / Malaysian / Chinese / French / Lesbian / Bisexual couple, it is the only home we’ve got.

@skinnylatte i don't have a comprehendible list ready, but i know in there is having you and sabrena as friends who makes this place more homey than it is

This is where I was able to have a wife and a life: https://popagandhi.com/posts/wives-and-lives/
I’m reminded of how I don’t, when I go ‘home’, even if I love my ‘home’ very desperately and wish it would love me back https://popagandhi.com/posts/schroedinger-s-lesbian/
So I’m here, even if America is the restaurant that keeps giving me food poisoning https://popagandhi.com/posts/america-is-the-restaurant-that-gives-me-food-poisoning/

@wilson and tasty!

@skinnylatte Aww! I'm so happy to be in community with you and Sabrena. And to witness the yells of Mila

@sipi_xo she spent most of the day yelling at the painting that was blocking her path to upstairs
