@skinnylatte Can't trust a site that doesn't know how to properly value a 'Newtown Pippin' apple.
I trust Orange Pippin mo'.

@arestelle very spicy takes on apples

@skinnylatte years ago when I lived in the Bay Area we went to Filoli when they had a heritage apple (and some pears) tasting and exhibit. They have been collecting, planting and growing all kinds of “lost” varieties. It was fascinating, delicious and quite disconcerting to realize how many varieties of apples there are - and how many we’ve lost.

@sumisu3 oh wow! seems like they are still around, will have to check out.. and yes, very sad about the apple diversity and how so many supermarket varieties taste so bad
-

@skinnylatte here in New Zealand I’ve worked on acquiring some less common varieties such as Merton Russet, Cox’s Orange, Matakana Golden Russet - a variety that evidently used to be grown in my specific micro region,and also my childhood favorite of Jonathan. All my trees are very young so will be some years before I can enjoy them. But it is a mission and a journey.

@skinnylatte these kinds of stories and people encourage me and give me hope

@sumisu3 Omnivore on Netflix has an episode on bananas featuring a kerala farmer who has been growing tons of different types of bananas!
-
@skinnylatte I saw that and it was so awesome. I’m growing Misi Luki bananas because I love the little short, plump, creamy bananas that my mother-in-law buys in Taiwan and that I’ve eaten in Thailand.

@sumisu3 yum!
-
@skinnylatte Oh they rated my favorite apple, Opal, quite highly and humorously!
