It's breathtaking really. Even stuff that's supposed to help you: various healthcare benefits, etc, they're all tax things, they're all financial instruments.
The other day I tried to call someone about a vet bill with a question and I got a machine pitching me A CREDIT CARD ONLY FOR VET BILLS, FOR LOW INCOME PEOPLE
What is this timeline, let me get off the bus

Even though I have ADHD, I'm petty enough to never want to allow this shit to get the better of me so I spent the last few months figuring out SO MANY THINGS about taxes, paperwork.
I found myself staring at a screen about whether I want to withdraw my 'deferred comp' in a lump sum or in installments (for tax reasons).
I actually.. understood all the acronyms, and tax issues! That was when I knew, I have truly assimilated

I was reminded how the only time I ever mailed someone anything (not from eBay) was when the insurance companies were being so awful about covid test reimbursements. they made it so hard to get reimbursed (you had to cut the UPC code on the box and MAIL IT TO THEM)
i actually sat down and cut out and mailed every single one, because i hate getting ripped off by corporations
-
that being said, there are plenty of useful and beneficial financial instruments for people who have enough time and money to figure it out.
which is exactly the way this country works, i suppose

@skinnylatte you can literally cash a check or renew your passport using a digital photo of documents, and yet they can't even figure out how to reimburse without dealing with little bits of cardboard they will just throw right in the trash.

@enmodo they can do it! they don't want to!

@skinnylatte I have said some form of this to people so many times: if you have enough money, making more money is the easiest thing in the world.
-
@skinnylatte that's right, invite folks to sign up for another credit card because their credit is good, which tanks the credit rating they need to not be penalized.
Yeah, sure, I'll go through the awkward process of signing up for a credit card while I'm standing in line to check out to save 10 bucks on this purchase. Every time I check out. That definitely scales.

@tedmielczarek @skinnylatte The really wild bit is that eventually you don't even need to try. Once you have enough money, people will just start lining up to give you MORE MONEY
