My relationship to oatmeal changed when I learned finally that you can also make oatmeal with soup / broth, and soy sauce.

@chu I even like to add a bit of Chinese tea if I have it. Oolong or pu-erh. Goes really well with dried scallops!

@skinnylatte I make an oatmeal stout beer bread that also includes oatmeal in the batter and put on top in the loaf pan. Itβs delicious

@skinnylatte Can't agree on sweet breakfast dissing (despite knowing it'd be good if I ate lower glycemic), but I thought I'd mention that in Charlie Chaplin's biography, he talks about a time when his mom kept his brother and him alive with oatmeal and onions as a meal.
It is a grain and certainly porridges could be savory, although sweet porridges are more known now.

@meganL I think homemade sweet breakfasts are probably fine, but the industrialization of sweet breakfast is totally horrid
-
@meganL also this is me being scarred by donuts for breakfast meetings at work: I canβt even eat a quarter of a plain one coz of how overwhelmingly sweet they are. Of course not every homemade sweet breakfast is like that. Just a very new.. life for me

@[email protected] @[email protected] ordinarily I would prefer a savory breakfast but I have been eating donuts more often lately, I don't even really think of it as breakfast, more like I can have a donut now and again, literally, like as a treat
