‘This is not real ramen’ (when someone posts like, a Chinese la mian)
It’s not a conversation I care to have repeatedly, but ramen is perceived to be of Chinese origin in Japan too AND Japanese ramen as popularized the world over now is its own thing.
But ramen weebs are just embarassing. ‘Anything that is not a tonkotsu is not a ramen’ to those folks apparently

@skinnylatte that attitude, especially when wielded by folks with my demographics, always strikes me as weirdly puritanical, just substituting perceived authenticity for more religious notions of purity.
How someone could look at noodles, one of our species’ greatest achievements, and decide to use them as a status symbol instead of endeavoring to try as many kinds as they can is beyond my ability to empathize with.
