I have a gene mutation that lets me not process alcohol, but I also have the one that makes me never need deodorant
Wondering if the money I’ve wasted on alcohol before I stopped drinking, is balanced out by the money saved from not needing to buy deodorant
Social media is heating up over why Asians don’t have body odor
While some extra deodorant swipes can feel like a necessity during these sweltering temps, there’s one group that’s not really sweating it.

@skinnylatte did you get very drunk very quickly? Or just a long hangover?

Hilarious Reddit discussion about this story has people discovering for the first time that stuff in people’s ears are (the opposite of what they know)
Basically, people with this gene mutation ALSO have dry ear wax, not wet (more like.. ear powder)
I remember when I first learned about people having wet ear wax I was very confused

@skinnylatte oooo fascinating!
I was always low sweat and low BO until I started my meds... But because I started both ADHD and antidepressant at the same time, I'm not sure which caused it
Seems like it wouldn't be altering me at that level, but general lipid processing? Maybe!

@bouncinglime oh yeah some people who have hormonal events like being pregnant also report that things change in this area. Our bodies are so fascinating

@skinnylatte *flips through the Humanity user guide*
dang there are so. many. features. I will never learn everything! I am still reeling about the fact that there are two ear waxes

Technically...
Being able to process alcohol is the mutation. The global majority don't tend to have it.
But medical models tends to centre certain phenotypes as "normal" when that's not strictly the case.
It isn't a "deficiency" in you, is what I'm saying, which I've found is the language used to frame talking about these things.
Hope that makes sense!

@Homebrewandhacking makes sense, thanks!

@skinnylatte Only if you liked really cheap alcohol!

@mcmullin all alcohol, including bad ones, start from US$20 where I come from (single serving)
