Woke up near Mt Shasta.
I fell asleep in the dining car / observation lounge of the Coast Starlight. It was vastly superior to trying to lie flat across three seats on a plane in economy class, in the rare chance there were three seats open that you could move to.
As someone from a tiny country: we’re still in California?!

Having breakfast and coffee and looking at this.

@skinnylatte a couple of years ago we drove up from LA to Vancouver with our three cats in the backseat (moving for work). From Shasta onwards, we were never out of sight of a giant volcano during our drive. It was beautiful but also intellectually alarming to realize that the PNW is basically a perforated piece of land.
-
@skinnylatte I took the starlight a few years ago and sadly it was dark when we went by Mt Shasta and missed it.
But I did get to wake up in a misty field in Oregon and it's probably the best wakeup scenery I've witnessed in my life.Train travel rules.

@skinnylatte this is one of my favorite train lines. That view is a big part of why.
Also, yes, north to south, California is massive. -
They just made an announcement: if you’re leaving your seat for any reason, you have to wear shoes
-
Scenes from the Coast Starlight observation lounge at 9:20am: 2 old ladies doing watercolors in a sketch book of the scenery (separately), a child drawing a comic, people playing a tabletop game with little rubber duckies, some poor souls with spreadsheets

Bed hair? Try train bed hair

@skinnylatte I definitely want to do the Coast Starlight after I move back west. Up to see my sister in Seattle.

@skinnylatte Nah, looks great from here! Wish I was on a train today, going anywhere
-
@skinnylatte that train is great, but it goes very slowly compared to most other country's trains.
