Tim Walz is not "redefining masculinity." Tim Walz is redefining *white masculinity*.
Trump does not have a big lead with men voters. Trump has an *absolutely massive lead* with *white men voters*.
70% of the NFL is Black. 90% of those Black men vote Dem. More Black men than white women think the environment is important. Black men support masking to prevent the spread of Covid. Black men are more likely to support women's reproductive rights. Etc, etc.
Football coach and cheerleader: How Tim Walz is defining masculinity in 2024
With gender central to the campaign, Democratic VP nominee Tim Walz is taking a different approach to masculinity compared to bro-ness and aggression.

If you look at survey results on important social issues without looking at race, you come to incorrect conclusions like, "There is a growing divide between the views of men and women on social issues! Oh no!"
But if you slice the survey participants into race and gender, you see that Black men's answers align more closely to women's answers than any other cohort of men, and in many cases, more closely to women overall than white women.

I'll keep saying this until it sinks in:

@[email protected] Periodic reminder: * Black men see themselves as more masculine than white men * White men see Black men as more masculine than white men * Black men are significantly overrepresented in the NFL, NBA, fighting sports, the military, etc * Black men are more likely to care about the environment, wear a mask, hug their men friends, participate in childcare, etc šš https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/112117180594047944 "American masculinity," is a euphemism for a very specific white US concept of masculinity.
Hachyderm.io (hachyderm.io)
The white US notion of masculinity is toxic, petty, violent, fearful, hurtful, and hateful. It's basically a grown man with the same emotions and selfishness as a 3 year old boy throwing a tantrum.
I'm OK if white people overall want to define that as masculinity for themselves, but don't put that on us. That's not how Black men define masculinity.

This post needs to be boosted 100 times, no 1000 times.
The reason this country is in such trouble is that a large majority of white men are going to vote for someone so profoundly horrible and unfit that it boggles the mind. And a majority of white women too, may also vote for this monster.
White men need to grow up and act like responsible citizens, not racist crybabies willing to chuck out democracy just so they can lord their bigotry and hate over everyone.

@mekkaokereke White supremacy and toxic masculinity (though I prefer to just call it "fragile masculinity" because that's what it is) are simply clinical narcissism. Everyone and everything else apart from them is an object to be exploited, everything is a competition, empathy is seen as weakness to be exploited, they are always the victim even when being abusive, there is no true self or integrity only false selves that are copied from elsewhere and must be defended at all costs, and it's basically being an emotional toddler.

@fifilamoura No, the clinical version is an emergent one. The toxic masculinity version may look similar, but it's definitely an acquired condition.
