Gaetz was a trial balloon from Trump to see if he could get a republican Congress to do absolutely anything he wants, no matter how hideous. Apparently he can’t. Yet.
I have no doubt that the next nominee will be awful as well, but I’m willing to take the win here. The would-be authoritarian doesn’t have a completely blank check yet.
