So I wrote a while ago about how content warnings are good and pacing yourself about political news is important and you may be noticing that I've been just a *bit* of a hypocrite about that in the last few days. As I said at the time, "the marathon that is the next 106 days"

In general I still agree with that idea but:
1. my current Poasting is much more goal-directed here, https://superswingdistricts.org is a specific project and not generalized anxiety.
2. I hope to return to a more moderated posting style with more of these guard-rails in the future. Win or lose, there will be less to do come November.
3. I know I'm burning credibility and the patience of my followers, but that is a conscious decision. Some things are more important than my personal reputation.

@glyph If being active and doing really helpful stuff burns your reputation with someone, I shudder to think what they're looking for...

@xgranade I have some sympathy for this. I have lots of friends, and presumably followers, in Europe, who are watching this happen with absolute horror, but with the very correct, explicit sense that there is nearly nothing that they can do. We all do what we can to protect our sanity, and hearing about the election from every person and object in your life that can display a picture or make a sound is extremely oppressive, even if you are quite politically active locally.

@glyph @xgranade That's where I'm at.
I live a couple countries away from a war that threatens to scale up to the entire subcontinent, and very likely will if a Putin-friendly stooge takes the US presidency. There's nothing I can do about it, and this both horrifies me and makes me feel absolutely helpless.

@glyph @xgranade Don't apologize; you're not doing anything wrong (quite the opposite).
From my perspective, the two most important issues right now are the climate disaster and avoiding World War III. I don't think any US president will, on their own, "fix climate change" or "avoid WWIII" - those things are not within a US president's power.
But exacerbating the climate disaster or the risk of WWIII *is* within a US president's power, which is why I really, really hope Trump loses.
