When someone says that they just can't quit Twitter, what I hear is, "I am comfortable in a room full of nazis," and I will remember that about them.

@wendinoakland @fraying When a support group that meets in a bar realizes that the bar has turned into a Nazi bar, should they stay or go?
The Nazis don’t bother them much. But it’s a Nazi bar. Should they try to meet somewhere else or no?

Try to leave, yes. Succeed in leaving... good luck.

@cy We’ve had two years to exit. What’s the remaining holdup?

A lot of people have left, I dunno. People think they'll be ignored and won't have support? I'm not allowed to join any roleplaying groups in my area without Discord, so maybe there's something like that? There's no good excuse, but people are scared.

@cy Discord is especially bad IMO because there’s no good alternative to it. But Twitter IMO has a really good alternative in Mastodon and other ActivityPub-based boards, which is why I think it’s possible to encourage the group to migrate to a Mastodon server, especially if it’s one they own and manage.

Actually, Twitter isn't just a room full of nazis. It's a room full of nazis in a building owned by a nazi who is currently working to get a nazi dictator elected, where your participation helps the nazi cause.
So, yeah. Gonna remember that.

@fraying
Yeah, I'm kind of wondering if I should just start calling it 4chan or Xchan or something. -

@cy Unfortunately, that only covers a bit of what Discord offers.
I use Discord mostly for a weekly gaming session with some old uni mates, and also we occasionally use it for watching films together - using the voice chat. None of us like Discord a lot, we're all aware that it's a matter of time before it enshittifies intolerably, but we haven't been able to find anything that supports voice chat well and *isn't* a maintenance nightmare. (We're all tired old guys who work too much.)
