the fact that the advice for "how to write an LLVM backend" is "copy an existing one and attempt to modify it while barraging the original author(s) with questions" makes me disinclined to think this is a viable workflow

honestly i'm in my 40s now, i'm too old to have patience for dealing with poorly documented tech anymore

@eniko Me neither, and I guess we're in luck! Every maintainer in the world is also too old to have patience for writing good documentation for their tech anymore.
(I didn't say the luck we're in was *good* luck.)
