TIL abestos cement is/used to be a thing. And found out in the weirdest possible way, by browsing the history of a random camping ground and witnessing the rich-in-subtext story:
1960: for the first time, we have water! At great expense, we have installed a large water main pipe made of asbestos cement.
1970: for the first time, we have non-killy water! At great expense, we have replaced the asbestos cement pipe with PVC.

@danderson
FWIW, Health Canada says "There's no consistent, convincing evidence that asbestos ingested through drinking water is harmful to your health." -
@danderson My house in New Jersey had asbestos siding.

@mpjgregoire @danderson I was just going to say that water pipes are probably not a super dangerous place for asbestos to be, as long as it's not damaged and exposed to air. A walk through any old neighborhood will put you in closer contact with airborne asbestos risk.

@swelljoe @mpjgregoire I'll be sure to head over to 1970 and let this campsite know?
