this is actually more people than i expected, interesting!
either i was wrong about the prevalence of this knowledge in general, or my sample is more aware of deterrence related trivia

@whitequark Just this morning I emailed one of the Minuteman historical sites to ask for dimensions of missile status lights on the commander's dashboard. I think that puts me in the "missiles Georg" bucket on this one

@whitequark Doubly so because that historical site exists as a direct consequence of START. It's one of the Minuteman II wings that got deactivated immediately after signing, to reduce the number of warheads on strategic alert. The deactivation order for that wing included that it should be left as unaltered as possible aside from removal of the missiles, code components and other sensitive gear, so it could be handed over to the parks service as a historical site.

@whitequark As a result, quite strangely, there's a couple raspberry pis now that puppet the wing status dashboard in the launch capsule, so the tour guides can run through a simulated launch. It's a very odd juxtaposition, a fancy single board computer toggling a "missile away" light on a 70s weapon system for the amusement of tourists.
