Spent about an hour today alphabetising citations and standardising labels in the .bib file for the big software paper. Nice, orderly citations. Easy to find. No duplicates.
Was this necessary? No. Will it be ruined the next time someone needs to copy-paste a big batch of citations in there? Probably.
But it did make me feel better in my heart. And it got my brain into working-on-the-paper mode. So it was worth it to me.

I think we need a word for "doing unnecessary and time-filling tasks for therapeutic reasons, in ways that help to ease us into doing productive work."
Shampooing the yak, perhaps?
