This is a pretty decent explanation from #Threads about what the #Fediverse is.

You should be able to follow me on @_edent_
(Please don't embarrass yourself in my mentions, thanks,)
-
Now that's interesting.
#Threads has proper #WebFinger support - https://threads.net/.well-known/webfinger?resource=acct:[email protected]
But the linked profile gives an error for me. Yet it can still be followed on Mastodon.social. I assume it is on an allow-list?
-
@Edent the link in your toot works for me
-
@aburka As I said, the WebFinger works. What if you try to click the linked profile - after that?

@Edent Wouldn't every instance have to be on that allow list then? I reckon it does content negotiation with an Accept header.
-
@derickr I tried sending the accept header.
```
curl 'https://threads.net/ap/users/17841402076816837/' -H 'Accept: application/activity+json' | jq
```Still nothing.
-
@Edent ah sorry, yeah that returns a json error
-
@Edent I don't know much about AP, does that... need to work? Or could it be just a placeholder/unique key?
-
@aburka with as much love and respect as I can muster this late in the evening... if you don't know much about AP, any explanation I can give you isn't going to help either of us figure this out.
If you're interested in learning more, I've written and documented a simple ActivityPub server at https://shkspr.mobi/blog/2024/02/activitypub-server-in-a-single-file/
-
@Edent yeah, the self link returns an error - very annoying!
-
@Edent it might be that signatures are the key here.

@BenjaminNelan
Yup! An experimental feature, I believe.
