Coinbase’s “Stand With Crypto” lobbying group has released a list of 39 candidates they endorse. After noticing some conspicuous absences, I discovered they’re just endorsing candidates with a high likelihood of winning — presumably to later claim a blowout in favor of crypto.

I plotted Stand With Crypto’s endorsed candidates on a y-axis of likelihood they win their races (as modeled by The Hill).
• 27 of 39 endorsed candidates (69%) have >90% chance of winning
• 32 (82%) have a 75% chance or more
• Only 3 have a <50% chance of winningFull-size image: https://storage.mollywhite.net/swc-endorsements.png

My guess is that Stand With Crypto is setting themselves up for a post-election victory lap. I expect a lot of statements along the lines of “Look at all these crypto voters who made their voices heard!” I wonder if they’ve started drafting them already.

Remember, this is the same group that decided they would fabricate the existence of the “crypto voter” if they couldn’t find evidence to support that these are real (and there isn’t).

This, along with Harris’s recent crypto-friendly statements attempting to appeal to Black voters, and the very tepid launch of Trump’s “World Liberty Financial” tokens, are only some of the things covered in this latest issue.

@molly0xfff sigh
-
@molly0xfff I’m disappointed that Harris is playing the crypto card.
-
@codemonkey85 you and me both
-
@molly0xfff Sad to see that John “I’m only doing this to pump XRP” Deaton is doing so poorly /s
-
@gulovsen meanwhile he keeps yelling at Elizabeth Warren for focusing on crypto too much
-
I really wonder how much of the money flowing into the crypto groups is coming from Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
Crypto is a really effective way for them to get around sanctions.
-
@molly0xfff Just spending their money where they think it has the best chance of influencing policy: with people who will win.
-
@LovesTha this is talking about SWC’s endorsements, which as i note in the piece do not necessarily line up with the majority of spending from the crypto PACs is going. For example, Bernie Moreno has received $40MM from crypto PACs, but was not endorsed by SWC.

@molly0xfff Stand with Crypto has been SMS spamming me for months trying to get me to register and vote. (I didn’t sign up, don’t own cryptos, and generally vote the opposite of what they’re hoping.) So whatever number of crypto voters they claim, I expect I’m counted among them.
