And I'm like GoToSocial is right here and has interaction control already. A new world is possible, but we'll have to stop assuming it will always be delivered by Mastodon.

Already done by Phanpy, and by many mobile clients. This restriction is specifically a Mastodon UI issue, and there are other UIs available.

Mastodon's solution is to build big relays via a grant from NLNet.

@tobi I've done direct comparisons between my big, fancy, expensive Mastodon server and cheap little ol' beta GoToSocial and the reply threads are night and day difference, with GTS pulling in a lot of context I'd literally never see on Mastodon.
