Twitter is full of furries upset about the room lottery for Midwest FurFest 2024.

What's the selling point of going to "the largest" conventions?
Do you want crowds?
Do you want long wait times for the hotel elevators?
Do you want to miss out on a room at the main con hotel?
What's the upside? A chance to hang out with people who rank higher on some social media popularity chart?
Fuck that noise.

What's the upside?
Well, some of my friends can only afford to really go to one con so they choose the biggest one, where most of their (international) friends go.
Which I can't really blame them for.
Cause I also wanna meet them, so to the biggest con I'll go too. And on and on that goes :blobfoxthink: -

@soatok for job related conventions: it's to network as much as possible to find a job and make the trip worth it. at some point there are diminishing returns, but 200-800 people.
for fun related conventions: it's because all the people I know online are hard to get in one place, and they're /in one place/ at this event.
for comic con: I think it's largely to take pictures with hobbits or get a book signed by an author (the author probably does have smaller book signings but this has more footprint)
