Hi, I never went through a "channer phase." Nor did the majority of transfemmes I know IRL.

Can we let that transmisogynistic, BS talking point die already?
-
@hrefna is that a typo, or am i blissfully ignorant of this one?
-
@mia heh, possibly blissfully ignorant, possibly just don't recognize the specific terminology? There are a few other terms for it, some less pleasant.
"Channer phase" (reference to 4chan etc), which may or may not have involved actual 4ch but refers to the crowd and type that they hung out with.

I have a mini-thesis about this perception and where it comes from, as well as when it does happen why that is the case, but that's beside the point:
It's a transmisogynistic talking point. It is rooted in transmisogyny, used as a way to selectively demonize or diminish transfemmes, and it is one of several "socially acceptable" avenues of attack.
-
(the fact that it is one of several should be more disturbing to people than it seems to be, but that's another rant entirely)
-
@hrefna I never understood the 4chan hype. Had a friend who loved YTMND back in the day, and so much of the stuff they thought was funny or great about it just seemed... mean.

@hrefna I once again feel the need to remind people that the narrative about transfems having mostly had a 4chan/nazi phase was, as best as I've been able to determine, started by a neonazi who was trying to normalise "having a nazi phase" in progressive/marginalised spaces
