Today's mini project is a victory

@doragasu both work but I preferred gyro after experimentation

Den Datafag Trollmann :flag:replied to Drew DeVault last edited by@drewdevault well yeah motion+ really just an additional gyro+acceleerometers, so you get two gyros
either way gyro needs calibration and zero reset, can't be used for absolute positioning, meanwhile IR is pretty much always precise, but only works while pointed towards "anchor points". -
@drewdevault looks nice, but i wonder weather you can precisely point the mouse with it?
-
@fossdd very fine movement is more difficult but I can reliably hit most targets that I'm aiming for

@hj bruh why are you mansplaining this to me, I literally have the device in my hand and have been experimenting with all of these things for a few hours now and I can tell you that IR is less precise in my test environment
-
@hj sure, IR is absolute and gyro is relative, but IR is also super noisy and it requires better fine motor skills to precisely target something in the narrow part of your FOV that contains the IR emitters
-
Den Datafag Trollmann :flag:replied to Drew DeVault last edited by@drewdevault gyro is also noisy :vanShrug:

@hj not nearly as noisy as IR was during my testing
-
@fossdd it's also significantly easier than the wireless touchpad I had tried first /shrug

@drewdevault I'm kinda disappointed that KDE Big Plasma has stalled, haven't seen any real commits for a while (last I checked). I've been running Ubuntu with a seriously hacked theme for a while. Today I'm actually going to format it to fedora.
Kodi is also the least reliable part of my setup, well between that and vaapi randomly breaking for a few weeks.

@drewdevault the second gripe is widevine. With kodi you can get 1080p. But not really with anything else. And no possibility of 4k. Which is a drm is evil problem, but it would really be nice if that wasn't an issue
