I just spotted this in @HarriettMB’s profile:
“We are all immigrants from somewhere else”
which hits home after this --> https://mastodon.social/@urlyman/113520189779475641
And made me think, isn’t it very weird how me living 230 km from where I grew up is ‘fine’ but large parts of northern France is nearer but – klaxon – *another country*.
And then I went down a Google Maps rabbit hole…

…The distance from the tip of Cornwall to the north east point of mainland Scotland is about 970km.
A radius of 970km from Dover in the UK takes in:
All of Ireland, European France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Andorra
plus a good bit of Czechia, Austria and northern Italy

@urlyman As someone who lives closer to Germany than many parts of the Netherlands, this hits home in an area that is culturally closer to Denmark than the south of the country.
(Also, recently, a local Italian lady refused to believe I am Dutch because I don't have blonde hair or blue eyes, unlike other Dutchies she met. That was new!)
