I feel like I’ve seen every recent Python job vacancy in my area and around, and it doesn’t bring me joy.

Living in a corner of the world away from Amsterdam doesn’t help either.
Makes me think about diversifying my offer. Who knows, I might have to get good with PHP and Laravel again.

Now there are smaller companies who just need the occasional help to get their IT problems fixed.
I like those companies, but they are harder to get on the radar.
There might be bank to made with a platform that plots every company and their web stack on a map.

@mahryekuh Diversifying is never a bad idea, but maybe it would be worth looking at newer things like Rust, Go, Swift, and others?
Then again, I don't know the market around Groningen.
-
@mahryekuh if you know your node.js i might know a company

@ainmosni Groningen isn’t where my market is, which is annoying because I live there.
I am considering Rust, yes.
Everyone and their mom seems to want office workers in Amsterdam or Utrecht. I love Utrecht, but it’s not feasible for me to work there permanently.

@mahryekuh You probably did, but did you check for remote work that accepted anybody in your timezone?

@ainmosni Yep.

@mahryekuh Isn't it interesting how they all complain that they cannot find qualified people, yet simultaneously refuse to let people work remotely?

@mahryekuh Ugh, I'm sorry, hope that you will find something that brings you joy.

@sindarina @mahryekuh But you might not work 100% of the time if not watched in the office!
-
@sindarina Yeah! I don’t mind coming over one day every other week or so, but not multiple times a week.

@ainmosni @sindarina Joke’s on them, I am way more productive when not surrounded by people. 🥲

@ainmosni I hope so too, but I have doubt at the moment.
-
@mahryekuh Are you looking for freelance / part-time / project work or for a full-time job?
-
@rami Originally freelance, fully remote, part-time, but I am willing to reconsider the freelance part under specific circumstances.
I also recently discovered that US East Coast time works very well for me, so not too stuck on Europe.

Does #GetFediHired work for freelance jobs? I am open to a new Python or Django gig, effective immediately, for up to four days a week (~32 hours). I am also skilled in HTML, CSS, and JS as progressive enhancement, and have accessibility in mind. I work remotely from The Netherlands. Invoicing works best within the EU or the US, but outside these regions is not off the table. Details: https://mah-rye-kuh.nl/en/hire-me/ Boosts are appreciated! #Python #Django #HTML #CSS #JavaScript #freelance #job

To clarify further… the market for Python isn’t as big as some others, especially in my area.
Python vacancies involve AI or machine learning, and I’m not interested in those.
If you add to that the desire to work remotely and not support gambling, betting, crypto, and some other industries, you’re out-niching yourself quickly.
Python also mixes poorly with accessibility jobs; an industry I’ve been itching to enter proper after over a decade of interest.
Not a complaint, just thinking aloud.

@mahryekuh Its surprising how difficult it is to find a suitable job once you include ethical constraints

@BafDyce Yeah, which says something about the tech industry.
