Also in case it wasn't clear the primary motivator is landlords who are losing their investment in office real estate, combined with C-level FOMO on those investments, and pressure from commercial landlords on local government -- not any kind of mythical IRL synergy or whatever

Anyway if all of the proported benefits of RTO are real they apply equally to profit as they do to union organizing so make the most of it

Apple spent 5 billion on their campus lol, it's embarrassing if it sits empty, this is the main reason why they want butts in chairs

@drewdevault Google spent a good billion buying and refurbishing a mega office in prime location London in 2019 to consolidate all its London offices. It now sits there with minimal utilization and there has been no consolidation so far.

@drewdevault what does ITL stand for?

@pieq typo, supposed to be IRL

@drewdevault I'm in the process of fighting my ex-employer's RTO in court. I just had my first mediation hearing yesterday but I'm not very optimistic.
However I'll do the thing to the end. The more painful it will be for the company the better I'll feel.
When I was discussing the matter with HR before being sacked, I tried to impress on them that should allow exceptions for people susceptible to over stimulation (which I consider myself to be one). They countered with "bring a diagnosis". It's amazing how years of meaningful service bring one no good will when it's in opposition to the corporate interest.

@drewdevault I can’t wait until the day when office buildings are converted into homes because of the economics of WFH
