Once again , THIS is why #linux matters.

Someone gave me an older Chromebook that was expired and not getting updates. Basically e-waste.

I was able to jailbrake it with Mr Chromebox, and install Linux on it. And donated it locally to a family.

Now it will run problem free for years for this family who needed a computer.

@codemonkeymike I did the same thing with an old Acer Chromebook C720 with coreboot bios.
