Been looking at jj as an alternative to git and I find it pretty interesting (though making note of a nontrivial number of critiques as I explore it).

But the thing which assuredly, tragically kills it dead for me, is that their community is on Discord.
It's so fucking sad when I mentally have to throw a promising project into the bin for this one stupid, tragic decision.

@drewdevault maybe I'm too git-brained, but reading the introduction to jj it doesn't really strike me as any simpler?

@antonia in my opinion, it's not exactly simpler, it's just making different tradeoffs. The complexity is there but presents differently from git. But I think the different tradeoffs are interesting.

do you not use any proprietary software? -
@m not really. I use Steam, that's about it. Nothing I rely on for work is proprietary.
-
@drewdevault Sorry if I missed something but why are you looking for an alternative to git?
-
@justsoup I'm always on the look-out for things which improve on the tools we already have. Git is far from perfect and someday it should be supplanted by something better. So far none of the contenders I've been keeping an eye on are compelling, but jj is certainly the closest... keeping an eye on it
