"MEASLES, MISINFORMATION, a 'vigorous spanking' of misogyny—whether women like it or not—a violent nine-gun fantasy for political enemies, crudeness, petty insults, and cronyism.

"Every day has another dozen stories like it, clear evidence that the Trump cult known as the Republican Party cares for nothing except for its own supremacy, the domination of its whiteness and its maleness and the violent domination of a blasphemous religion they call 'christianity' and which I will not give the benefit of capitalization."

@wdlindsy Thank goodness for small wonders: yesterday's Iowa polls (Selzer and Des Moines Register) could be a sliver of daylight (hope even?) that white America --Iowa's population is about 84% white-- is *finally* turning its back on what Trump is peddling

@wdlindsy "What we have been seeing within many Christian circles and the Republican Party isn’t classic conservatism at all. It is fascism." ~ Benjamin Cremer
Russia has won hearts and minds using #Surkov cracked monomyth since 2013. "God' in The Bible is fascist, a ruler of the cosmos who dictates to Moses in commandments.
Bible verse "1 John 4:20" corrects this problem. Loving living people is what is important, verse "1 John 4:20" calls people liars who say love Jesus while hating people

@wdlindsy the “boll weevil” #Democrats (basically: southern #evangelicals that were anti- #lincoln as they were pro- #Confederacy ) shifted party affiliations around the time of #reagan and have since come to control the #republicans as #christofascist cultists. They need to be brought under control, be satisfied/complacent as a “silent majority” (as they used to refer to themselves) if there is to be a #GOP in the future. There needs to be a “Marshall plan” that reunites the country

@wdlindsy I wonder if the cause is the world, especially the US, is just amazingly prosperous that people cannot conceive of things going sideways. People feel free to indulge in violent political fantasies because they think prosperity and liberty are guaranteed.

@cgervasi I suppose that could be the case. I'd also tend to point to the way right-wing networks have spread massive amounts of disinformation in recent years, especially about immigrants. Those networks have had great success in sowing fears among many people, inflaming hate, dividing people, driving them into the arms of authoritarian strongman figures.

@blackburied That's correct. White Southern Democrats, overwhelmingly white evangelicals made a mass exodus from the Democratic party after it supported Civil Rights registration in the 1950s and 1960s. Nixon and Reagan actively welcomed those voters and shamelessly used racist dog whistles. Now those voters have the upper hand in the Republican party and are driving it nationally, and the consequences are serious for the whole nation.

@RoundSparrow Thank you for those good notes on one of the sources for this infatuation of white US Christians with fascism.

@StrangeCulprits Yes, the Selzer poll, in particular, is getting a lot of notice today. Glad it and the Register concur, too. That strengthens both findings.

@wdlindsy There's something else happening that's convincing people conditions are bad even when objective parameters are mostly excellent.
Sometimes my kids say when my wife and I talk about the recessions of 91, 02, or 08-09, we sound like old people grousing about "when I was your age..." but maybe that perspective is helpful and people get less of it because of personalized media. -

@cgervasi That's right. Having grown up with parents and grandparents who lived through the Depression, I heard many stories about how bad it can get — and I compare those stories with what people are complaining about today and think the complaints are very self-centered and unrealistic.

@wdlindsy I wonder if this happens with young people who can't find a romantic partners get support from millions of people with the same problem online and conclude it's because of a massive social problem. There are no parents and grandparents talking about when they had what felt like horrible relationship troubles and it all worked out fine.

@wdlindsy When I took macro in '94, I wouldn't have believed how good things could be 30 years from now.
-Unemployment below what we thought was the structural limit.
-The concept of "poor countries" slowly disappearing.
-Everyone, even the very poor, has access to high-tech tools.
-Cars are reliable long after the odometer "flips" past 100k.
-I can access foreign media without going to a major library or a long-wire SW antenna.
-Everyone, even idiots, can publish their thoughts instantly. -
