Instead of funding cops to shoot people, why not use the money to make public transport free for people who can't afford it?

@starlily @mister914 Data I'm finding is that NYC fares are ~$4.6B (2010, https://www.osc.ny.gov/reports/osdc/fare-revenue-considerations-metropolitan-transportation-authority), so the amount spent is reasonable against that figure. (It is only the IRS checking on rich tax returns that nets more than is spent directly, usually you need to think about what it does to compliance more broadly)
That isn't to say that fares are good, but lets use real numbers.
