"How he’s developed and wielded this influence over two decades is one of the more consequential and underappreciated shapers of the failed global response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Entering year two, this response has been defined by a zero-sum vaccination battle that has left much of the world on the losing side."

@timnitGebru @alshafei I saw someone on here include him on a list of “good” billionaires the other day because of the public health work of the Gates Foundation.

Two days before the WHO declared a pandemic on March 11, 2020, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced something called the Therapeutics Accelerator, a joint initiative with Mastercard
(emphasis mine)
... with MASTERCARD. ... AGH
congrats to gates for making sure he didn't miss out on the chance to also be a "tech leader" with a bodycount. -

@timnitGebru @alshafei Thank you. Been trying to highlight his hubris as socially injurious to the global community.

@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] Foundations for billionaires and other wealthy people are such a perfect little scheme for them. Rather than paying taxes to fund public institutions that are nominally subject to democratic limits and excesses, they get to funnel money towards organizations they control that A, serve as free publicity and reputation washing machines while also B. pushing society in a direction they want. It's ridiculous.
Only one kind of good billionaire: former billionaire, and even that's subject to a lot of conditions.
