Oh look, here's Mastodon's BDFL comparing federating with threads to federating with beige.party, and saying that he thinks it's a principle of the fediverse not to block instances that don't moderate extreme anti-trans hate. Nice.
(Edited to claify: he didn't explicitly say that was a principle of the fediverse. He said that talking to each other while using completely separate platforms was a principle of the fediverse, and he didn't see any reason why it shouldn't apply to threads. @[email protected]'s Unsafe: Meta Fails to Moderate Extreme Anti-trans Hate Across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads has receipts on threads and anti-trans hate, and that's only the tip of the iceberg.)
I get it: there are reasons that many instances see the positives of federating with threads as outweighing the negatives -- and it is a fundamental principle of the fediverse that each instance makes its own decisions about who to federate with or not.
But still, comparing Threads to beige.party is just ludicrous. One of these things is not like the other one.
