@benpate Yes, this has been my stance on "flagship servers" since early 2023.

It's simply not possible to frontload the explanation of server choice. Let people try it out from somewhere obvious and noncontroversial, then let them change servers when they have found somewhere to belong.

Flawed as Mastodon's account migration is, I think defaulting to .social still beats trying to convey a PowerPoint presentation's worth of "what it means to be on an ActivityPub server" during registration.
