Probably the worst (definitely the longest) chart I've ever made. But it was fun!
-
@stefan maybe it’s because I have dark mode on my iPhone but I only see the top chart. Is there a bottom one?
-
Also, shout-out to the folks who follow me on here, I wouldn't be able to write studies like these without you!
-
@atthenius Hmm, looking into this!
EDIT: Here's a static version while I'm investigating the issue: https://stefanbohacek.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/fediverse-activity-report-1-screenshot.png

@stefan Sounds like a cool investigation!
Do you happen to have any idea why the chart isn't visible on mobile (iOS)?
I tried it in both Safari and Firefox, and although I can click around in that space and see different "account was created on X and the last post was Y ago" sort of annotations in a tool-tip sort of container, I can't see anything that resembles a chart in that space.

@ryanrandall Thank you! Yes, someone just reported this, so while I'm investigating, here's a static version: https://stefanbohacek.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/fediverse-activity-report-1-screenshot.png

@stefan okay-- I see this on my laptop now. neat-- but on my dark/iphone , only the text labels are visible
-
@atthenius Thank you for the update!
I hope the chart makes enough sense.
Either way, this seems to be a general issue with iOS, still looking into it.
-
@atthenius It looks like switching the chart library to use an SVG renderer did the trick, if you want to give this another try!
-
@ryanrandall Should be fixed now!
-
@stefan it works!
-
@atthenius Great, thank you for confirming!
Does the chart also make sense?
-
@stefan Indeed it is! Thank you for letting me know!
-
@ryanrandall Thank you for confirming! Hope the chart makes enough sense!
-
It does make sense, but pretty different presentation. I'm not clear on \ sort order
If I were making this plot:
Two panel figure. Top w the fraction (y-axis) of accts continuing to post X days (x-axis) after creation; bottom bar chart where height (y-axis) is the number of accounts that have been around (x-axis) days.
Or, alternatively, upper x-axis time & y-axis stacked bar chart of your categories (posted today, week, month, year); lower number of accts (y) and time (x)
-
@atthenius That makes sense! Let me give this a bit more thought.
And to answer your question, the sorting is just based on when each account last posted.
I think it would look better if within each group the accounts were also independently sorted, perhaps by when they were created, that would flow much better. Let me see if that's something that can be done.
-
Alright, now the accounts are sorted by the date they last posted *and* the date of creation.
Definitely looks nicer, and it's easier to spot patterns!
