I know of no better articulation of the deeply political nature of search than Noble’s (2018) book “Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism”
(nb. ‘political’ does not imply ‘preferentially amplifies a particular political party’)

@avlap2 is the idea here that Google has done nothing to tweak its algorithm since 2018, so what Noble documented extensively in the book (and with that the cover..) is wrong?

@avlap2 if you read the book, you will see that one of the most revolting and soul destroying aspects of Google search for “black women” at the time of Noble’s writing was the way it consistently surfaced porn among the highest search results.
