Okay, time to properly launch this: SUPER SWING DISTRICTS! https://superswingdistricts.org
This is a slate of Democratic candidates calculated to give the maximum impact to your direct-donation dollars.
National campaigns receive a ton of money, but can't always deploy it locally in the places that the Electoral College, gerrymandering, and … shenanigans mean it needs to be spent. But figuring out which local campaigns *can* use it is a lot of work. This site represents the output of that work.
-
Maybe you've got a limited budget for political donations and you don't know where to spend it; a few bucks in a presidential campaign feels like a drop in an ocean. Maybe you've got a big budget but you've maxed out your direct donations to national candidates and you don't know where else to spend the rest of it, because you're skeptical of PACs. Since the slate features 18 candidates, you can donate up to your limit on each one. In both cases, this is a high-impact use of your funds.
-
I've finished this site later than I wanted to, so there's precious little time left in the election. Even if you can't donate, please boost this *widely*, because we are still in the window where it could make a really big difference.

There are candidates from Pennsylvania https://superswingdistricts.org/#super-pa from the southwest https://superswingdistricts.org/#super-southwest and from swing states https://superswingdistricts.org/#super-swing . I've made sure to link up all the individual seats (click the "#" next to the seat ID) so you can link directly to them if one in particular speaks to your particular issues or values; don't feel like you have to boost me here, feel free to post in your own words after reading.

@glyph Sharing your link on Slack doesn't embed anything. I would recommend some sort of card meta tags on the homepage.
-
@soatok Thanks, I appreciate that. But … I don't know how to do this, and it looks like it requires a bunch of fiddly Slack API automation stuff? https://api.slack.com/reference/connectors/guru/create_card
If you have a snippet you could share with me in a gist, I'm happy to drop it onto the page. (The web page part of this is a solo project and I'm not really a frontend guy. I can usually do FE stuff pretty well given enough time, but the turnaround on this has been extremely tight.)

@soatok oh wait, is this what I want? https://api.slack.com/reference/messaging/link-unfurling#classic_unfurl

Update to https://superswingdistricts.org today: a goal tracker, showing how much we've raised. This has been promoted other places, and we don't really have any tracking, but just based on timing it does seem clear that you folks are responsible for a pretty significant chunk of the progress so far, so THANK YOU!
