Anyone want to start a webring of personal blogs and websites? We could pick a connecting topic (ie. all members of a specific group, or all co-op folks, or just all single-person personal blogs, etc.) or just allow random sites. I'm trying to think of a better way to find good stuff than search, which is 99% controlled by Google even if you're using third party search engines, and is mostly useless these days anyways.

@sam I'd love to. I really miss linky-things and webrings and such. I think that really helped us back in the day. What topics were you thinking of?

@KitMuse those examples were the only things I could come up with; I don't know that my own personal site fits nicely into any one topic since it's mostly just random things I've written that didn't get published elsewhere

@sam yes! I even went so far as to choose the webring software I wanted to use (I like https://github.com/k3rs3d/ringfairy by @kern), but still have yet to make the thing.

@eamon @kern I haven't heard of this, but thanks for the suggestion. Made a little Arch package to make it easier for me to install/play around with if you're an arch user:
(note that it defaults to working in local directories, so you'll need to manually specify that the config lives in /etc/ringfairy. Other example directories where the resources got installed are listed in the installed config file).

@eamon @KitMuse @meganL @amolith pulling in a few people who responded with "yes"; hi all!
Kit suggested a general "fediverse authors" topic, or I was thinking we could each just pick a few topics for our blog and generate several rings based on those topics so eg. Megan and I might both choose "bicycles" and we'd be the only two people in that ring (unless others added more), but all of us might choose "fediverse" and that ring would go around between all of us.
Other thoughts or discussion?
