Hi, #scholars, tell us, why are you on #Mastodon?
We are researching how and why academics use Mastodon compared to other platforms. Is it key for #academic #discourse?
We'll launch our #research survey by mid-October, so stay tuned.
Meanwhile: what features of Mastodon do you find most valuable for academic discourse?
And which other questions should we include in our research, you think?#AcademicMastodon #AcademicChatter #OpenScience #SocialMedia

@Bibliothecaris Things I like about Mastodon:
1. I can take responsibility for my profile and connections, no billionaire can cut me off.
2. People don't need an account to look at the things I post. So I can send someone a link and they can look at it. It's become surprisingly rare for social platforms. Also Mastodon posts can be cited.
3. People can converge around interests using hashtags, lists, and (in the future) groups. -

@Bibliothecaris I like that I get to see researchers from Ethics in the Digital Sphere.
I like the ability to mix following people, institutions and topics
I miss some colleagues. there were lots of people signing up here and then losing interest in their accounts
but I am happy to see more academic institutions here!
One important feature of Mastodon for me is verification. Like here I can be sure that people are who they claim to be if they do there own verification.
