Laptops from System76 and Framework are always advertising that they work well with Linux, but that's NOTHING compared to this.

the first serial mouse I plug in appears to have dead horizontal tracking. god damn it.

@foone oh, bother
-
@foone Gotta ask... how is that a mouse? As in, where are the left and right mouse buttons? Also, it just looks downright uncomfortable to use...
-
@kbkarma it's very uncomfortable to use! and the buttons are his eyebrows

@foone how does a PS/2 mouse know a Serial adapter has been plugged in? Do they put a Serial signal into an otherwise unused pin?
-
@foone I think it might just barely be able to run Doom. Minimum requirements are 4mb 386
-
okay I got it working with a much more boring mouse.
once @gewt gets out of her meeting I'll try doing dialup with it. -
oh hey it still has credentials saved for the previous user's ISP

@thejpster Something like that, yeah. Or they wire it so that if they're plugged into PS/2 they get power on a different pin, so they can tell which one is plugged in
-
@crobbler the fun part is that the main reason it can't run doom is a lack of HARD DRIVE space! there's nowhere you could install Doom to!
-
it's also got a PCMCIA port. so maybe I could shove an ethernet card in there
-
or a hard drive card big enough to let me run DOOM
-
@foone INTERNET? OMG WHAT IS THAT
-
OKAY I dug through my PCMCIA box a little.
We've got some storage adapters, some storage cards, and some ethernets. -
@foone and the "Internet" works ?
-
@gabriel good question!
-
the manual implies that the PCMCIA slot is only for storage. So far it hasn't liked any of the cards I've put in it.
-
and that they'll sell you 4mb or 10mb cards.
those fuckers better not have stuck some kind of crappy DRM on this thing to make them only work with their own cards
-
@foone they know the existence of the Pentium/66 so... 1996 or 1997?
