Ah, so if I want to follow someone from Bluesky, they have to first follow the Bridgy Fed account to opt in, I see.
-
@sknob I'm not too familiar with how Bluesky works either, and I think bridged accounts might further complicate things. I did flag the creator of the bridge in another thread to look into this.

@deborahh Great question! I'd have to try it out to be able to answer.

@stefan Mine is @candidexmedia.mastodon.design.ap.brid.gy

@candidexmedia Thank you, added you!

So apparently to get yourself removed from a starter pack on Bluesky, you have to block its creator.
Will have to find a way to test how this works for bridged accounts.

@stefan
Brid.gy is actually already banned on several instances because of the threat of opt out, so likely isn’t the best option -
@stefan nope, people have absolutely NO control over bridged accounts

I previously had m masto bridged but didn’t like how I had absolutely no control over the bridged Bsky account, that and I already had a Bsky account and there was no real way to connect the actual account to the bridge account.
Add to that the annoyance of only interactions with other bridged accounts going through, masto specific vs bsky specific content &etc, and the fact that … -
There were bsky only accounts following and commenting that I would never had known about had I not seen them while on my actual Bsky account and the questionable morali of opt in vs opt out and having to beg/harass people to opt in if you want to be able to interact with them just felt squicky.
Since I already had my own bsky account I just dropped the bridge.
-
@stefan Didn't it start as opt out & everyone hated it?

At the moment there are a handful of semi functional apps for iPhone that you can sign in with both accounts and it merges the timelines into one feed and allows you to make posts to both at the same time.
But there are a few weird issues with the way bsky handles custom feeds, and boosts/reposts only go to the originating platform, so you can’t really effectively cross the streams.But that kind of thing seem like the best option atm
-
@jackemled Yes, on the fediverse side of things, and I don't expect that to change.
But Bluesky can be handled separately, so that's what's being discussed.
I think it would only be fair to keep the tool opt-in for all networks. If that makes it less useful, it's an issue with the networks not cooperating and should be fixed on that level.
-
@Alien_Sunset Right, this discusses the Bluesky side of things, as that could be technically handled independently.
(Not arguing that it should.)
-
@Alien_Sunset Yeah, that's kind of weird. It looks like you can block the bridging account and that will delete the bridged profile. Not too sure if that completely deletes your posts. (I'd assume that's the case.)
-
@Alien_Sunset @deborahh Yeah, I wanted to give this a try, but it's already a bit messy, with folks starting to follow an account I made just to reserve my username.
I guess I'll give it a few more days to feel things out for myself.
-
From what I could tell it deletes all the posts too, I had reposted/quoted some with my actual account and they are all gone now
