Zero patience for people who want to tell me about Europe not persecuting refugees and talking about “throwing bottles” as “crimes” when I spoon feed you in a thread exactly how and why the persecution is done.

I find this strand of “we’re not racist in Europe” to be so insufferable everywhere but so prevalent on this damn platform.

@timnitGebru Europe has the most deadly border (the Mediterranean) in the whole world, killing most exclusively people from the global south.
Claims of Europe not being racist are infuriating, since reality shows it's quite the opposite. -
Thanks for the pointer, I knew the crossing was deadly but I clearly didn't understand the scale.

@eliasp @timnitGebru The racist border allow/allowed us to have a play-pretend "not racist" Europe because only the good refugees survive or something.
It's disgusting. A lot of people here believe they aren't racist because they usually treat refugees who've made it here quite well (there are of course also those openly Nazi who don't, increasingly so). But the refugees as a whole, they are – to them – a problem. Sure, they need help and support, but please not in front of my mowed lawn.
