Mastodon admins out there, am I right or wrong in saying that for disaster recovery situations I don't need to have backed up the /cache/ folder from my S3 bucket, as this only contains stuff gathered from other servers?

Would sure make backup costs a hell of a lot cheaper if so

@BobDendry last time I checked, there was no file system differentiation between stuff produced by your users (local media) and remote users (remote media.) I think they’re all in the same folder.
You can trim how much remote media you’re keeping around, though. If users go after something old and the host is still on the network Mastodon will re-pull the media to your server.

@BobDendry oh.. reading this more carefully- you’re after cache, not media. This I’m not sure about, but I think it will be dynamically re-generated as needed.
