Terminated my accounts at Meta's Instagram and Threads...
Now working on helping my community set up a possible alternative to our very useful Facebook group. Leaning toward WordPress/BuddyPress but open to (serious) suggestions.
UPDATE: There's a good conversation in the comments below. Thank you to all who are offering suggestions.

@dangillmor what about a Hometown server? It's a spin of Mastodon that allows local-only posts, so you can have private discussions within the server.

@dangillmor @mallory maybe @nodebb ?

@[email protected] thanks for the recommendation!
@[email protected] please give me a shout if you're interested. NodeBB does full two way federation (if that's your thing), and has great support for user groups, categorical organization, etc.

NodeBB could be a very good choice. You can have private groups (that don't federate) as well as public groups (that do).

@Dan Gillmor
- Move everyone to somewhere in the Fediverse and set up a public group/forum on Friendica, Hubzilla or (streams).

This is the closest to Facebook you can get. - Move everyone to the Threadiverse (Lemmy, Mbin, PieFed) and set up a public Lemmy community, Mbin magazine or PieFed community.
This is more like Reddit.
A Friendica group, a Hubzilla forum or a (streams) group can also include an event calendar. But hardly any places in the Fediverse other than Friendica, Hubzilla and (streams) support events; Mastodon doesn't.
