Have you ever been to a political rally?

@evan what’s the difference between “strong” and “qualified” in this context?
It’s a no either way from me, but in a question like this, they seem to mean the same thing…

@evan One that sticks out in my mind was a rally for the Congress of the People party in Trinidad. Trinidad being a diverse society, but generally religious, the rally started with blessings from a Catholic priest, a Hindu pundit, a Muslim imam, and then a group of Spiritual Baptists.
(I was purely an observer. At the time I had informed opinions on politics in #TrinidadAndTobago , but I wouldn't necessarily have supported the CoP.)

@evan @DemocracyMattersALot it was a counter protest to a nazi rallly, in Germany. It wasn't about election politics, but ideology … and we see where that's gone in Germany. Now it's election politics

@evan
Ah, gotcha. “Yes with qualifiers” rather then “with a qualification”
Thanks! -
@evan I was at the Kerry rally in Cleveland in 2004 with Springsteen http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/3958641.stm

@gareth here's my favorite so far:

@[email protected] Not consensually. A conservative candidate snatched me out of my mom's arms for a photo op when I was an infant and Mom was at the mall on the wrong day.

No, but I was kind of in the background for a political act. One of those "we had this building done, here's a bunch of people using it" sort of thing. I was not in the party, though I often agreed with their stuff. I did legitimately use the building, so I wasn't taken there to pretend I was part of it.
Edit: now that I think about it, I was asked to speak with the top politician as part of the event, but I refused, so they had someone else do that.

@TyrionTargaryen Ha! Interesting story.
Also, how many people know the theory behind your user name? I think it requires some pretty deep obsession with ASOIAF theories to understand it (and why Tyrion should get his own dragon).

So, these are interesting results. I'm a qualified no. I've been to a lot of protests, and sometimes political party leaders or politicians speak at them, but I don't think I've ever gone to an event just to support a political campaign. I should probably give it a try sometime.

@evan I missed the poll, but I went to a Bernie Sanders rally in '16. In The Before-Time.

@squinky Duly noted!

@evan My parents took me to a Clinton rally in 1992. That's me in the foreground, with the painfully 90s bowl cut and painfully 90s jeans jacket.

@foo Did the saxophone music work for you?
-
@evan I don't remember how well he played there specifically, but he was pretty good overall. https://www.c-span.org/video/?26472-1/clinton-appearance-arsenio-hall-show

@foo It would have been cooler in 1992 if he was an acid house DJ tho
-
You're the first person to point it out, so far!
I was really into it for a while, going to the r/asoiaf subreddit to debate a lot of wild theories. I'm generally not into podcasts, but I listened to several ASOIAF-related ones. I have a dog named after a character. The whole thing.
And yeah, I'm totally a believer of the Tyrion Targ theory. 🤪

@TyrionTargaryen I was into r/asoiaf right around the time that the last book in the series came out. Such optimistic times!
