one of the reasons I truly love the Casio F-91 is that it is the embodiment of what I want out of technology. it performs its core task diligently for a decade or two without ever needing intervention. it has a few useful extra features, but they never get in the way of the core function. it contains no frustrations or frictions. the one I was bought in the mid 1990s still works today. if I were to replace the batteries every 10-20 years, it would likely outlast me. such a rarity.

it's also cheap *because* the scope is small and the engineering is careful.

@gsuberland but also: it's the same board as the more powerful models, kneecapped so they can sell those at a markup.

@nsa I do not need my watch to be more powerful. I need it to work for a decade with zero cognitive load.

@gsuberland oh shit I thought you were talking about the calculator I used in school!
I own a casio watch too, LA670, the small gold version. I hate smartwatches and find the digital easier to parse. It's my daily driver, and got it for the same reasons as you
I'm wearing my citizen solar now though. It's more stylish!
