It's here. The new AeroPress Premium. Got the studio photography done last night. Now time to use it a bit today to see how it works.

@coffeegeek Oh, lovely. Has the volume increased or has the diameter just a little decreased?
-
@Einzigartiger double walled, so the diameter of the brew chamber is more narrow. It is 100% compatible with standard AeroPress filters, plastic caps, and the flow control cap.
-
@coffeegeek @coffee maybe add, that aeropress as a company was sold to a investment company and take new products with a grain of salt. Inflated prices for inferior quality
-
@grauhausen @coffee I don't know if I'd label anything about the Premium as inferior quality, but yup, Tiny Investments, (based right here on Vancouver Island - though I've tried to connect with Andrew Wilkenson a few times via email, since he lives in the same city I do, with no luck), and some of the things they're adding to the AeroPress lineup are weird.
The XL is the wrong size (ppl wanted a 350ml AeroPress, not a ginormous 600ml brewer), their AP stand is really cheap, their metal filter is not good; but I do like that they're offering colours in the tritan plastic lineup, and I did like the AeroPress Go (that was Adler's last contribution to AeroPress).
-
@coffeegeek @coffee looks like a fine product, but using metal and glass does not really justify the $150 price point imho.
-
@grauhausen @coffeegeek @coffee
Note that, say, Bodum French presses have a similar glass and metal build and manage to do it at a way lower price point. Same with siphon makers. -
Also no replacement parts listed on their page. So if you break the glass, you can throw away the whole thing (assuming they changed the diameter to be incompatible with the plastic chambers)
-
Hario Siphons are not double wall glass, and start at around $100 USD (and about $85USD in Japan) as a starting point, and Hario makes the glass and metal themselves. When the Hario Nouveau was introduced, that was $125 USD... in 1998.
I also wouldn't compare these to double wall press pots, because those devices don't have to withstand the pressures that the AeroPress does.
I think the price is up there, but it's not Weber "up there". I'm still going to use it for another few days before I really decide if the $150 USD price is too high or not for what you're getting.
-
@grauhausen I don't think the glass can be replaced. You'd have to buy the entire brew chamber / base assembly, as they are glued together.
I'm sure it will be available at some point. The product just literally came out, and right now is only for sale at AeroPress direct and Williams Sonoma (a 1 month exclusive).
-
@coffeegeek do you happen to know where it is manufactured? my original aeropress and the mobile one are made in the US. My money would be on china
-
@grauhausen China china china china
They put "Palo Alto, California" on the base, but that's a kinda "Designed in Cupertino" trick like Apple uses.
