Huh. Have you had your daily fedi drama yet? Well, here it goes.

So, I've just been kicked out of #Iceshrimp. I publicly announced I would be involved in the project last March, when I was added to their "core team" chatroom with 3 other people. Some people back then told me I was getting into a toxic situation, but I thought it was a misunderstanding, because of someone else who had been involved in Iceshrimp in the past. It took me a while, but I reached the same conclusion in a pretty harsh way.

I don't want to get into much detail, although I'm sure lies will be told - I've already been accused of "abuse" because I said, in a DM, that a particular person who had been rude and ironic to me on several occasions, treated me "kinda shitty". If you hear that I was kicked out because I was "abusive", it means that I said that a friend of the lead dev who was mistreating me, was treating me "kinda shitty". This is how abusive I am.

Until like an hour ago, I was still deluded that I was in a project in which I could contribute, and that we could build #Catodon on top of that and have a great relationship with upstream. I am very disappointed right now, I don't even know what will happen, but Catodon will probably not be happening, I don't see how this could work. I trusted the wrong people, once again. I'm really sorry. We will announce more in the following days.

I still believe that Iceshrimp.NET will be an amazing fedi platform code-wise. However, I can no longer recommend the project.

it's so weird. ever since calckey/firefish happened there's been drama after drama in the forkey dev community. there's no need for any of this. this makes me sad

@panos i remember there being some drama regarding Kainoa. if i may ask, was their disappearance related to that, and what "side" on the old drama does the Iceshrimp team take?

@JuxGD you and me both, I have no idea why the forkey dev space is so filled with drama and toxicity. I was very disheartened by this - Firefish went as everyone knows, Catodon was halted, and now this mess with Iceshrimp. However, even though my first reaction after this was to give up (that's why I wrote that Catodon will most likely not happen, I was really interested in Iceshrimp and saw Catodon as an Iceshrimp "flavor" with only a few changes and I intended to be actively involved in both projects), I spent 9 months in Iceshrimp, thinking I was part of a team effort, and I don't want to let everything go wasted, I'm still very interested in this. So we will still try to make Catodon happen and see where it takes us - I'm not a dev so it won't be easy and we'll definitely need some help but I think we'll figure it out, and hopefully some #csharp #devs might get interested in the project. We want to build an inclusive and chill project where it's fun to participate, focused in smaller communities. Hopefully, others will have that need too. But it's a little soon for announcements, we'll say more when the time comes.

is this implying you're aiming for a Catodon .NET rewrite effort from scratch?

@JuxGD I don't think there's any relation, Iceshrimp started as a Firefish fork last year (several months before Kainoa left Firefish) and since then it has taken its own course. For anything related to the Iceshrimp team and their views, you'd have to ask the Iceshrimp team.

@JuxGD well I can answer that, Catodon is an Iceshrimp soft fork for a year now and will most probably continue to be. We definitely don't intend to do a new rewrite from scratch, that would be counter-productive.
