Monterey seriously smells like the drying anchovies of my childhood. That’s because it’s nature’s dried anchovies (tons of them on the beaches now). Not only is this smell a happy childhood memory, it makes me happy to know the animals here are getting fed in this anchovy feast

The link says MBARI sent ROVs into the water and even with light, could not see anything because of how many anchovies there are
